Panic attacks, anxiety… how do I control myself? How do I keep from having this?
I usually have attacks when I have to speak publicly, talk on the phone, await an appointment… What can be done to take my mind off of the situation?
I would try relaxation , breathing exercises. Breathe through your nose slowly and deeply, and then slowly out through your mouth. I would see your GP for further advice as proper treatment may be required. Take time to relax, especially in the evening. shallow breathing, casued by panic attacks often makes the attack worse, a catch 22 situation, so try breaking the link by breathing more deeply.
I often try imagining I am somewhere esle during periods of stress. For example, do the breathing exercises while imaging you are sitting on a beach on holiday in the sunshine, etc.

You need to talk to your Doctor…there are highly successful medications for your social anxiety.

Sounds a bit like social phobia. I have a bit of that too. I found that 5-htp worked. It gets rid of your anxiety by increasing serotonin. you should be able to buy it in your drug store.

Well you could talk to your doctor about getting prescription pills that would help.

I have a suggestion… I am on antidepressents, but I find that if I get a massage at least once a month i am a lot more relaxed. There are also mini fountains you can put on you desk to help calm you down. There are some inexpensive ones at Walgreens that are Battery operated. I also find that it helps to talk to someone. I went most of my life growing up, holding everything, then I had a breakdown. My advice, Do an activity or listen to music, whatever you do, Don't hold it all in.

The best thing to do if you dont want to see someone to help you ,is to train yourself to control them try reading this book "The worry cure" by Robert Leahy i work for a psychologist and this is the book we recommend our patients to read good luck.

you need a therapist to help with panic attacks but if its mild anxiety several things can help, the medication inderal- musicians take it to help with stage fright, you need a prescription, you cant eliminate the anxiety but you can lower it so its manageable, lots of books on social phobia also–i would check in with your regular doctor then a therapist who treats panic or social phobia–its treatable

Hello, anxiety attacks suck *hug*.. there are only two things that work for me.. anti-depressants and a lot of exercise. When i feel a panic attack coming on, and if I can I go run as fast as I can or walk for as long as it takes to get over the attack. Try to have a friend accompany you shopping, I find this helps.
