Does lexapro actually work for panic attacks?
I have just started to have really bad panic attacks and my doctor put me on lexapro. I have not taken it yet but I just want to ask if anyone knows if this drug really works for panic attacks or not?
All anti depressants affect everyone in a different way. I myself take lexapro for social anxiety. I describe it as "mild", I've had several types of anti depressants and lexapro is the right one for me. It doesn't take away all your anxiety, it doesn't numb your emotions either, but for me it makes me feel like I'm right. I have a problem with blushing at every turn of the corner, and I would jump like I was scared if I DID turn the corner and someone was there lol. That went away. It helps me cope with the anxiety I have but does not take it all away. Give it about a month to a month and a half, it could really help you.

It does, but it's not like an immediate thing. It's not like you can just take one when you feel it coming on and it'll stop. After you've been taking it daily as prescribed for a couple of weeks, you won't have them any more (or at least much more rarely).

Well…lexapro is an anti-depressant. As anxiety can be a major symptom of depression, I would say that yes, lexapro would work. I am only guessing however so maybe you should google it and find some more info to put your mind at ease.

i think i could face about anything on it. i am calmer and more even. i faced anxiety and racing thoughts really bad during the manic phases of my bipolar, and the lexapro helps. like all drugs, it is a trade off, because there are always side effects. you have to balance the gain against the cost and decide on a personal level if a med is worth it. for me it is so far.
