I don't want to have to go back on Paxil, but my panic attacks are starting to get bad. I haven't started hyperventilating, yet, but that's just a matter of time.

when you feel panicky, concentrate on your breathing and take long deep breaths. Try to relax as often as possible, and if something begins to stress you out, take a break and relax.

Go for a run or a walk..it helps to clear your mind

Chamomile tea can calm, lavender scent instills calmness too.
If your at home try a nice lavender foam or milk bath, make it real warm and stay in until it is cool.
Pamper yourself, you deserve it, always remember that; you deserve the finer things in life.
There are other means of natural relaxation but that is illegal and I probably shouldn't mention that here, lol.

when you know you are going to have an attack, lay down flat on your back, breathe in and out,and place a book on your lower stomach so you can see it rise up and down, think to yourself, this will go away, it will pass, there is nothing wrong with me, by breathing deeply, you see the book rise up and down, when you hyperventilate, you are breathing shallow….which is more in the upper chest i believe… try and see if it works for you, also someone told me that to carry a small brown paper bag if you do hyperventilate……….

    st. john's wort.
it is natural, has a low number of side effects (if any), and best of all, effective. if this country wasn't run by pharmaceutical companies, you'd actually know that it really works. it does take time to kick in (like prescription anti-depressants too, between 2-3 months average) but what is better than something made from the earth?
someone also said yoga here and i would say definitely! it's amazing.

I used to be on Paxil. Actually I take my last pill tomorrow and then I'll be completely off. (Enter cheers here.) :o) I don't even need to tell you about my struggle getting off of it, because I am sure you know what it was like yourself without me giving you the terrible details of my experience.

I decided to go the natural route about 5 months ago and it's taken me that long to get off of the Paxil. The things I have found that have helped with my panic attacks and general anxiety are really easy to incorporate into your life style. I don't suffer from depression, so I don't think I am capable of giving you advice from my own experience on that one, so I'll leave it out as to not misinform you.

I found that drinking no caffeine or alcoholic drinks has significantly reduced the degree on my anxiety. I drink solely water, milk, and juice, so there are no unnatural drugs in my system. I also changed my diet somewhat to include more healthier foods which seems to help too.

I try mainly to avoid situations where I know I'm likely to have a panic attack. I also limited the stressful activities I was involved in and asked family and friends for help with taking care of my toddler. I am a full-time student, so that was causing quite a bit of anxiety on my part. I limited my hours down to 12 so that I wouldn't end up with a work overload. Maybe you could talk to your employer about details at work that might be causing you stress and together ya'll could work out a plan that might be suitable for you in your condition.

When I would start to hyperventilate during a panic attack, I would repeat a mantra over and over in my head again and again. Some people choose to repeat a phrase that has to do with the situation, like "I will get through this, I will get through this". This will sound kind of strange, but I do better when I repeat a phrase that has nothing to do with my panic. I repeat over and over, "Sue did vow to rid the town of the giant male duck". It's phrase that I was required to type at least 5,000 times in keyboarding and it always stuck with me. It keeps my mind off of the hyperventiltion and is also kind of funny so it really does distract me.

A friend of mine knows a lot about pressure points. He told me that during a panic attack or when I feel one coming on to press certain points on my hand VERY hard and rub in clockwise circles. One is underneath the thumb and the other is directly in the middle of my palm. This didn't work particularly well for me, but it could for you.

There are many more things I do, but I don't want to overload you. If the natural thing doesn't end up working for you, don't feel bad about having to take medication. My mother has found that after she got off Paxil, she preferred just taking a Xanax when she would have a panic attack. She prefers to take medine on an as-needed basis instead of daily or regularly. That seemed to work for her and didn't carry any of the side effects that Paxil has. Xanax can be very addicting and WILL make you drowsy, but sometimes that is what you need when your panicing.

Good luck. I know it's a struggle, but there are Paxil and panic online groups that you can join for support any time of the day. I don't know the web addresses, but I'm sure if you type "anxiety depression support group" into Google or Yahoo! you won't have any trouble finding what you need!! :o)

St. John's Wort works for a lot of people, but it made me angry when I was on it. I never heard of anyone else having that happen though.

Hi, I had a fren who would have panic attacks as he used to suffer from depression.

Recently, he was put into a situation where he started to feel panicky and depressed again. He took some medication from doctors but that was causing him to feel numb and lose control of his mouth. He would salivate and would feel tired all the time.

Therefore, I suggested that he tried some alternative methods that I have seen my friend's mum trying,

She was suffering from depression and after she took a product called Indinine 3000 and slept on this bedpad called KIKO Bedpad (tat emits far infra red rays and negative ions), her moods start to stabilize and she didn't have to take that much medication.

Also, she started to recover much faster from the elctrolization therapy (she was very serious case).

Well, my friend heard about this and started trying it out, he has since felt much happier and has stopped waking up in the middle of the night hyperventilating and his asmathic attacks have all gone.
