PostHeaderIcon Migraines and Panic Attacks? Birth control?

I suffer from chonic migrains, sometimes 2-3 per pay. I have suffered these for about 3 years. Recently a friend of mine went on medication for anxiety/panic attacks and her migraines ceased. I have done alot of research on anxiety and panic attacks and I have most of the symptoms of panic attacks. Could this be what has been causing my migraines?

Also, a friend of mine at the hospital I work at claims that her Yasmin was causing hers. Is this possible? I have been on Yasmin, and now Yaz, for about 3+ years.

Professional help only please.

Some ssri's are used in treating migraine sufferers. I took an ssri and did not suffer one migraine the whole time. One year after stopping, I did start to experience migraines again, but to a lesser extent. Talk to your doctor and discuss the pros and cons. I would definitely research the Yasmin connection as well.

PostHeaderIcon all the ways to control or cure epilepsy, panic attacks, & seizures?

cause i need 2 control them

Negative emotions (like sadness, stress, anger, etc.) causes your Serotonin production to be low; when your Serotonin level is low, you are more prone to getting Anxiety, Panic Attacks, Depression, etc.

Medication like Antidepressants (SSRI - Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitor) helps to boost Serotonin level.

But there are natural ways to do it without medication. There’s this strange herb called “St John’s Wort” - it is said to be more effective than Prozac. No, it is not for mild depression only and ignore those sayings. In fact, it does help anxiety and panic-attacks as St John’s Wort works like prozac. Other natural ways will be exercise, diet, more exposure to light, etc.
The problem is that, even if your Serotonin is balanced… you have that “learned behavior” in your mind. You need to break that initial cycle to destroy that learned behavior - Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT) does this. A technique that you can use without CBT will be Distraction… There are several other techniques to help cope them!
Ok, to use Distraction: Firstly, try to….

PostHeaderIcon Does lexapro actually work for panic attacks?

I have just started to have really bad panic attacks and my doctor put me on lexapro. I have not taken it yet but I just want to ask if anyone knows if this drug really works for panic attacks or not?

All anti depressants affect everyone in a different way. I myself take lexapro for social anxiety. I describe it as "mild", I've had several types of anti depressants and lexapro is the right one for me. It doesn't take away all your anxiety, it doesn't numb your emotions either, but for me it makes me feel like I'm right. I have a problem with blushing at every turn of the corner, and I would jump like I was scared if I DID turn the corner and someone was there lol. That went away. It helps me cope with the anxiety I have but does not take it all away. Give it about a month to a month and a half, it could really help you.

PostHeaderIcon Panic attacks?

I think im suffering from panic attacks i think! im too scared to go to the doctors so can some help me diagnose im tired of readin ivilliage symptom solver! my symptoms are feeling light headed, cold wet palms, racing or slower heart beat fear of dying makes it worse last about 10 plus minutes please can someone give me some advise not just go see the doctor because thats what i am trying to avoid. thanks
Thanks everyone for your answers just so you know i phoned the doctors today and made an appointment Thanks again :0)

Panic attacks can be extremely scary. Try to remember that the sensations you are feeling won't hurt or kill you, and try doing deep breathing to calm down. The problem with panic attacks is that as soon as the first symptoms begin, we get scared and that makes more symptoms which make the fear level climb. They can be controlled with talking yourself through them with calming thoughts. I know what it's like and have learned to control mine over the years. Try doing as much reading about them as possible because education is your best defense.

PostHeaderIcon Any advice or anxiety/panic attack type symptoms please?

Can anyone give me advice for how to sort out anxiety. I tend to get the following when I’m about to go to something like a gig (like I am tonight) or a do, a club, whatever… I feel kind of sick and nervous, and like I almost want to say “oh, I’ll just stay at home” (which I don’t want to do tonight at all!” but I don’t ever feel short of breath, or like I’m “going to die” as I know is a common feeling during a panic attack.
My heart seems to beat very fast, but I think that’s quite normal for me, but I’m definitely aware of it.
Any ideas on what this nervous feeling actually is and how to get rid of it. It’s not just excitement it’s only happened over the past year or so. Also it lasts for ages, all day or especially in the run up to the event, not just for an hour or whatever.
I know this part is a bit silly but I also can’t drink much alcohol when I feel like this, which is ironic as I’m sure it would help, but I just don’t want to drink or eat much at all.

Beta blockers are great for releiving some of the symptoms of a panick attack, you dont need to tak them except when you need them, and they work pretty quick too (about 15 mins and last a good while after)

Apart form that, slow breating etc, or a more long term anti anxiety drug (usually used for depression) like venlafaxine (brand name effexor) or fluoxetine (prozac) or one of the many of those things.

For your case I would say beta blockers as they go to the root of fast heart beat, sweating, edgyness, and they slow the whole lot down.

Heart beat drops so body relaxes, in turn the edgyness comes down along with racing thoughts and sweating etc.

It all depends on the root cause of the anxiety and panick atttacks, but a doctor or pharmacist is a much better person to advise.

You could try diazepam (valium) but this can be very addictive, beta blockers, well, you cant get addicted to them!

visit a chemios and have a word with the pharmacist, they are fully qualified to give you advice, and if they feel its a bit more than is in there scope they will recommend visiting a doctor.

PostHeaderIcon Can panic attacks cause people this?

I have panic attacks and I have had a lot of cases where I lost my voice. I think every time I had a panic attack I lost my voice completely this time it is not coming back. This has only happened with the last year or so. Can panic attacks cause this?
No God references please.

I've had panic attacks for around 5 years and the only thing that sorta makes my voice going out is not being able to breath, but I have never completely lost my voice.

and it's not that I really lost my voice, it's that i just felt like i couldn't breath…
I would ask a doctor.

PostHeaderIcon can alcohol cause panic attacks? ie day after boozing?or is anti depressent withdrawel 3 wks later more likely

ive had 2 in the last 4 nights. and wanted to call 999. wanted tosatay away from windows in high storey building.

Anti-depressant withdrawal, depending on which one you were taking, can be a real thing. Users seem more aware of this than doctors, so you might want to look up info. on your particular anti-depressant online. They can take a few weeks to clear so it could still be an issue for you.

Alcohol withdrawal can also cause panic attacks. More importantly, if you're having alcohol withdrawal that means you're addicted (you can't have withdrawal without addiction). Here are the symptoms of alcohol withdrawal.

PostHeaderIcon does yawning start a panic attack or a panic attack makes me yawn?

I notice i start yawning over and over and then i will start to feel a panic attack happen. Do i panic then yawn or yawn and then have a panic attack? It seems to be an odd symptom of panic attacks, but it never fails. When one happens the other is not far away.

yawning is your body’s way of telling you to get my oxygen in your brain. so either your are 1: already hyperventilating a bit as the panic attack starts and your brain tells you to yawn. then the panic attack goes full blown. or 2: already in a full blown panic attack and rapid breathing. your body is telling you to yawn to help slow down your breathing. the shallow quick breaths increases co2 and decreases o2 causing your blood to be more acidic. so i would say that when you start to feel panicky watch your breathing and take deep long breaths in w/ longer breaths out. good luck!
